Because of the recent worldwide events and increasing awareness of thepotential for exposure of the county to Bioterrorism, Mercer County HealthDepartment has developed a response plan to help guide and promote aunified and knowledgeable course of action to be followed should such anexposure occur. Communities must have a coordinated response plan to apossible terrorist attack. The Mercer County Health DepartmentEmergency/Bioterrorism Plan includes ESDA, law enforcement, EMSresponders, local fire chiefs and all firemen, health care facilities, and publichealth officials. In the event of an emergency or terrorist incident please, refer to theEmergency Information Link on the Health Department Home Page. Community Members can take action and prepare a Portable EmergencySupply Kit. Portable Kits address the key elements of Water, Food andClean Air that are essential for survival. Recommended supplies fromwww.ready.gov include the following:

Water - determine the amount able to be stored outside the home and transported to other locations.
Food - at least a three day supply of non-perishable foods
Battery-powered radio and extra batteries
First Aid Kit
Whistle - to signal for help
Dust mask-or cotton t-shirt - to help filter the air
Moist towelettes - for sanitation
Wrench or pliers - to turn off utilities
Can opener - for canned food
Plastic sheeting and duct tape - to shelter-in-place
